10Part II — The Investor's Workshop: Method, Valuation and Risk
Chapter 10
Jordan Belfort: the anatomy of manipulation
Pump and dump, time pressure and sales scripts. How financial manipulation works and how to recognise it today — on Telegram, TikTok and in ‘exclusive groups’.
Jordan Belfort's story is familiar from the film. The mechanics behind it are less well known. It was not about brilliant investments. It was about scripts, pressure and the emotions of clients who wanted to believe.
How pump and dump works
- The organisers buy illiquid shares or a token cheaply.
- They aggressively promote them as the ‘opportunity of a lifetime’, adding time pressure.
- The price rises as new buyers come in.
- The organisers sell at the top. The price falls, leaving behind those who believed.

How much does access cost?

Bennyyoung operator
The first week is free, then 99 euros.

If someone's got an 80% success rate, what do they need your 99 euros for?

Warning signs of manipulation
- Time pressure
- ‘Today only’, ‘last few places’
- Guaranteed profit
- Any promise of no risk
- Secrecy
- ‘Don't tell anyone, this is for a select few’
- No verification
- Unregulated operator, no licence
The best protection is a delay. Manipulation feeds on haste. If a decision cannot wait 48 hours, it is usually not a decision you want to make.
